Comments From Head Coach Scott Barth:
"Overall we ran pretty well on the girls side. There were 11 ranked girls teams, in the most current rankings, at the meet and we managed to take second place with both classes combined. #5 Pella ran a solid, pack race and edged us out. We did manage to beat class 4A ranked #14 Indianola and defending class 3A champion Solon and a large number of other ranked squads from around the area. Paityn Noe continued her championship string easily out distancing #2 ranked Timmerman of ADM by 1 minute and 21 seconds in a time of 17:45. Annika Larson had a breakthrough race in a big way placing 4the overall. She went under the 20 minute barrier for the first time in her career with a time of 19:37. Ava Vance ran a solid race in finishing 18th in a tough field with a time of 20:49. Brynn Wilson and Ava Richardson continued their running as a pair placing 53rd and 54th overall with nearly identical times of 21:54. Raegan Loewe and McKenzie Dee wrapped out our varsity with 80th and 88th place finishes out of 185 total runners.
So, obviously I am very happy with both Paityn and Annika's race. We had the best 1-2 punch in the meet for sure. Ava Vance ran well, but has not hit her stride yet. She is able to practice well with Annika, so we know there is more in her tank with a few more weeks of practice. Brynn and Ava R were not in 100% form and they both realized that this was not their best race. They know that they have more to give, so that is a lesson they have learned. Again, you can't complain too much considering the tough teams that we faced and we came out in 2nd. However, the girls want more and they know they have to work to get that. For us to make a run at the state title, we need to get our 3-4-5 closer to our 1-2. I am confident that we can do that."
The Bombers are back in action on Saturday - September 17 when they compete in the Heartland Classic. The women will race at 11:20 AM.
