Bombers Compete In Winterset Invite
Ladies Finish Strong At Meet
The women's cross country team competed in the Winterset Invitational Meet on Tuesday. Although no team score was kept, as athletes ran in accordance to their grade level, the Bombers would have scored 28 team points good enough for a first place finish.
Paityn Noe had the best time on the day for the Bombers running in a time of 17:47. Annika Larson finished second overall for the Bombers in a time of 20:33. Ava Vance's 21:50 was good enough for 5th place. Brynn Wilson (9th - 22:22), Ava Richardson (11th - 22:29), McKenzie Dee (20th - 23:44), and Raegan Loewe (21st - 23:57) rounded out the top seven.
Comments From Head Coach Scott Barth:
"It was a solid performance for the girls tonight. The meet was divided into grade levels and 7 medals were awarded for each race. Each of our runners that ended up varsity for our next meet at Ballard ended up medaling which is a good sign. Paityn Noe ran her typical race, running away from the rest of the field with her 1st place finish as a senior and overall by 2 minutes and 46 seconds. Annika Larson ran well in leading the 9th/10th grade girls race and beating 2 very good and ranked 2A runners from Van Meter on her way to a runner-up finish overall. Ava Vance continues to grow in her confidence and finish as the best overall junior and placed 5th overall. Brynn Wilson and Ava Richardson once again packed it up at the 2nd and 3rd place sophomores finishing 9th and 11th overall. McKenzie Dee was the 3rd ranked freshman and finished 20th overall. Raegan Loewe grabbed the last sophomore medal and placed 21st overall to round out our varsity. We will continue to practice in a way to close that gap between our runners. Tightening the gaps between 2nd and 3rd and 3rd and 4th/5th on our team could really put us in a good position heading into the postseason. I firmly believe that we have that ability and we will continue training to make it happen. A special shout out to Katie Tollefson and Gracie Ross who both continue to develop and gave great effort yesterday. Gracie attacked the course early and Katie progressed gradually throughout the race. Give them more time to build that base and develop and they will show great improvement over the course of the season."
The Bombers are back in action on Monday - September 12 when they compete in the Mike Carr Invitational Meet in Huxley. The meet will feature the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity and will start at 4:30 PM.
