Bombers Start Fast; Win Lynx Invite
Ballard Scores 33 Team Points
The women's cross country team jumped out to a fast start and won the Webster City Invitational on Monday at the Webster City Links Golf Course. The Bombers were led by Paityn Noe who won the race in a time of 17:23 breaking the school and course record. Ava Vance finished fifth in a time of 20:54. Brynn Wilson, Ava Richardson, and Annika Larson finished 8-9-10 finishing within a second of each other. Raegan Loewe and McKenzie Dee rounded out the field finishing 20th and 28th overall.
Comments From Head Coach Scott Barth:
"I am pleased with the performance of the girls tonight. It was nice to get a competitive meet under our belts with four ranked teams in the field. Paityn Noe showed her off season training has paid off, winning the race with a school and course record time of 17:23. That knocks a full 12 seconds off of her own school record and cements her place among the states elite runners regardless of class. Ava Vance appears to be back on the right track after battling injury over the course of the last 6-7 months running a good early season time of 20:54 good enough for 5th place overall. The trio of Brynn Wilson, Ava Richardson and Annika Larson ended in a tight pack placing 8th, 9th and 10th in the field of 80 runners to cement a solid score of 33 for our varsity girls. Raegan Loewe ran a solid 20th place effort with a time of 22:29 and freshman McKenzie Dee made her varsity debut in a 28th place finish with a time of 23:33. I was anticipating a battle with a very talented team in 7th ranked North Polk, but our girls ran pretty well and were able to come up with some good times. The JV girls also ran well and showed improvement over their time trial times from over the summer. Newcomer Katie Tollefson and Senior Gracie Ross ran gutsy races and will continue to develop for us. We have a good mix of experience and newcomers on the girls team and I look forward to seeing them all develop and grow."
The Bombers are back in action on Tuesday - September 6 when they compete at the Winterset Invitational Meet. The meet will feature the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity and will start at 4:15 PM.
