Ballard Goes 0-2 On The Night
The Ballard women's wrestling team continued to gain valuable varsity experience Tuesday at the Boone Tournament, competing in two closely contested duals against Boone and Winterset.
Ballard opened the night in the quarterfinal round against host Boone, falling by a narrow 39–34 margin. The Bombers were competitive throughout the dual, earning several bonus-point victories that kept the team within striking distance until the final weights.
Ballard picked up falls from Evelyn Faubus (120), Harper Coppock (125), and Felicity Sharp (145), while Charlee Neer (130) added a major decision. Kacey Smith (110) earned a win by forfeit, and Amalia Olson (155) picked up a victory via disqualification. Boone countered with multiple falls of its own, including wins at 115, 140, 190, and 235, ultimately edging Ballard in the team score.
In the consolation semifinals, Ballard again found itself in a tight dual, dropping a 33–27 decision to Winterset.
Smith followed up her earlier win with a 3–1 decision at 110 pounds, while Esther Wilson (135), Kentley Wierson (140), Felicity Sharp (145), and Valentina Gutierres (190) all secured victories. Sharp was especially dominant, recording a pin in just 19 seconds. Several matches hinged on bonus points, with Winterset capitalizing on early falls to secure the team win.
Ballard's women's wrestling team now sits at 4–9 on the season as the program continues to build experience and confidence against quality competition.
The Bombers return to action Friday, January 23, at the RRC Tournament in Carroll, with wrestling scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM.
