Women's Wrestling Competes at Clarinda Tournament
Ballard Scores 59 Team Points
The Ballard women's wrestling team faced a deep and competitive field Saturday at the Clarinda Girls Tournament, finishing 10th overall with 59 team points during winter break action.
Clarinda claimed the team title with 156.5 points, followed by Kuemper Catholic and Johnston. Ballard competed against 18 programs in one of the larger tournaments of the break.
Sophomore Evelyn Faubus highlighted the day for the Bombers, capturing the championship at 120 pounds. Faubus went a perfect 4–0 on the day, recording four falls, including a quick pin in the finals, and scored 28 team points. Her performance was a key contributor to Ballard's team total and continued her strong season.
Harper Coppock earned a fifth-place finish at 120 pounds, battling back through the consolation bracket with two major decisions to place and add valuable team points. Kacey Smith finished sixth at 110 pounds, while Sadie Ruby also placed sixth at 155 pounds after earning multiple pins in consolation action.
At 190 pounds, Valentina Gutierres placed fourth, picking up two falls to score 11 team points. Kentley Wierson added points at 135 pounds with a win by fall in the consolation rounds.
Ballard also gained valuable varsity experience from several wrestlers competing in a tough field, including Emarie Pearson, Charlee Neer, Alayna Bowman, and others, as the program continues to build depth and confidence throughout the season.
Up Next: Ballard returns to the mat on Saturday, January 10, at the Ogden Tournament, with wrestling scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM.
