The Ballard volleyball team opened its 2025 campaign on Tuesday night at the Dallas Center-Grimes Quad, taking on a tough field that included two ranked opponents.

The Bombers began the evening against Class 5A No. 7 West Des Moines Valley, battling hard in the first set before falling 25-20, 25-12. Ballard then faced Class 4A No. 13 Dallas Center-Grimes, where the Fillies controlled the match and handed the Bombers a 21-9, 21-12, 15-7 loss.

Ballard bounced back in its final match of the night, earning its first win of the season over Greene County. The Bombers pulled out a close 22-20 opening set before settling in to take the second 21-11, sealing the 2-0 victory.

The results move Ballard's record to 1-2 overall (0-0 in conference play).

Up next, the Bombers will travel to the Grinnell Tournament on Saturday, August 30, starting at 9:00 AM, where they'll look to keep building momentum early in the season.
