Women's Tennis Edges Cardinals
Ballard Defeats Newton 6-5
In a thrilling showdown that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Ballard women's tennis team narrowly defeated Newton 6-5 in a hard-fought contest. With this win, the Bombers move to a 2-3 record on the season.
The match was a rollercoaster, featuring intense battles across singles and doubles courts. Despite some tough defeats, the Bombers showcased grit and teamwork to come out on top.
Singles Highlights
Addy Agena started strong for Ballard, taking the first set 4-0 but ultimately falling in straight sets to Morgan Frehse. Zoe Wilson also put forth a valiant effort but was edged out by Brooklyn Sterling in two sets. Anja Tjernagel faced a tough opponent in Sloan Brodersen, losing in two sets despite a competitive effort.
Notable victories included Siene Roush, who fought back after dropping the second set to beat Kaetlin McPartlin 7-5 in the third. In another crucial match, Reagan Remsburg was defeated by Ava Williams in a three-set thriller, with Williams prevailing 7-5 in the final set. Josie Oldenkamp clinched a clutch victory, winning her first set 10-8 in a tiebreak, then rebounding after a second-set loss to defeat Camryn Andrew 7-5 in the decisive third set.
Doubles Drama
The doubles portion was equally exciting. Agena and Wilson teamed up to edge out Newton's Sterling and Brodersen after dropping the first set but bouncing back to win the next two. Conversely, Remsburg and Oldenkamp faced a tough challenge, falling in straight sets despite a strong start.
Tjernagel and Zimmerman, as well as Roush and Schonhorst, both rallied from set deficits to secure crucial victories in three-set battles, solidifying the Bombers' overall win.
