Strong Effort Falls Just Short as Bombers Drop Finale
Nevada Defeats Ballard 2-1
Nevada — The Ballard women's soccer team closed out its regular season Friday night with a narrow 2–1 road loss to Nevada in a competitive matchup that featured a fast start, a first-half response, and a tightly played second half decided by a single goal.
Ballard struck first in the opening half to take a 1–0 advantage, setting the tone early on the road. Nevada answered before the break, leveling the match at 1–1 in a back-and-forth first half that saw both teams create limited but meaningful attacking chances.
The Bombers finished the night with five total shots and two on goal, with sophomore Maci Harder providing the primary offensive spark. Harder accounted for Ballard's lone goal and finished with three shot attempts, including two on frame, continuing her strong attacking presence in the final stretch of the season.
The second half remained tightly contested, but Nevada found the decisive breakthrough to move ahead 2–1.
Defensively, Ballard held firm in several key moments and kept the match within reach until the final whistle. Goalkeeper Hannah Swisher played all 80 minutes in net, recording four saves while facing consistent pressure as Nevada pressed for the go-ahead goal.
Despite the result, Ballard remained competitive throughout, matching Nevada's intensity in a physical and evenly played contest that ultimately came down to finishing in the attacking third.
With the loss, Ballard closes the regular season at 6–7–2 overall and 3–4–1 in conference play. The Bombers now shift their focus to the postseason when they host Grinnell in the regional quarterfinal starting at 7 PM on Thursday - May 28.
