Bombers Close Season with Hardware at 132
Ballard Finishes With 27.5 Team Points
The Bombers closed their season on the state's biggest stage, finishing 38th in Class 2A with 27.5 team points at the IHSAA State Wrestling Championships.
Class 2A featured a tight team race at the top, with Decorah and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont sharing the team title at 131.0 points. Ballard's total was fueled primarily by a standout tournament from junior Easton Enyeart at 132 pounds and a resilient consolation run from Carter Jeffs at 150.
Enyeart Claims State Runner-Up Finish
At 132 pounds, Easton Enyeart (35–5) delivered one of the strongest performances in program history, finishing as state runner-up.
After receiving a first-round bye, Enyeart opened his tournament with a dominant technical fall over Hayden Albaugh of Williamsburg, 15–0 in 2:12. In the quarterfinals, he earned a decisive 10–3 victory over Mason Avila of Decorah, followed by a 5–1 semifinal win against Carter Schmauss of Crestwood, Cresco.
In the championship match, Enyeart battled unbeaten Gage Spurgeon of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in a tightly contested bout that extended to a tiebreaker. Spurgeon secured a 5–1 TB-1 victory, handing Enyeart a second-place finish after a remarkable state tournament run.
Enyeart's poise, mat awareness, and ability to control position throughout the tournament highlighted his growth and consistency against elite competition.
Jeffs Battles Through Consolations
At 150 pounds, Carter Jeffs (29–15) contributed 6.0 team points with a gritty performance that included three postseason victories.
Jeffs opened with a major decision over Warren Duitsman of Estherville Lincoln Central, 15–6. After falling in the second round to Gabriel Brisker of Wilton, he responded with back-to-back wins in the consolation bracket: a 9–6 decision over Aiden Frascht of Forest City and a 13–3 major decision against Barrett Morgan of Algona.
His tournament ended in Consolation Round 4 with a 7–1 decision loss to Grant Knutson of Decorah. Jeffs' ability to rebound after an early setback reflected the competitiveness and resilience required at the state level.
Season Conclusion
Ballard's 27.5 points placed the Bombers 38th in a deep and highly competitive 2A field. While the team score does not fully capture the impact of the performances, Enyeart's runner-up finish stands as a significant accomplishment for the program and sets a high standard moving forward.
With the state tournament complete, the Bombers close the 2025–26 wrestling season having competed against Iowa's best and gaining valuable experience on the championship stage.
