Men’s Wrestling Competes at Waukee Northwest Tournament
Ballard Goes 1-4 On The Day
The Ballard men's wrestling team faced a challenging slate of competition at the Waukee Northwest Tournament, earning a notable dual victory over Perry while testing themselves against several top-ranked programs from Iowa and Nebraska.
Ballard opened the tournament with a 44–35 win over Perry, powered by a strong middle of the lineup. Heston Rhiner picked up an early decision at 113 pounds, while Easton Enyeart controlled his match at 132 with a technical fall. Momentum swung firmly in Ballard's favor with a string of pins from Hayden Neer (144), Caleb Hyman (150), and Carter Jeffs (157). Forfeits at 165, 175, and 190 also contributed to the team total, securing the Bombers' lone dual win of the day.
Against Millard West (NE), Ballard dropped a 43–22 decision but continued to show individual success. Rhiner earned a first-period fall at 113, while Neer, Hyman, and Jeffs added wins by decision or major decision. Greyson Ehresman collected six points at 190 via forfeit.
Ballard then encountered Dallas Center–Grimes team, falling 73–4. Enyeart provided the Bombers' points with a major decision at 132 pounds.
In the fourth dual, Urbandale defeated Ballard 50–18. Owen Davidson (120) and Grant Fulkerson (138) both earned falls, while Enyeart and Neer added decision victories.
The tournament concluded with a 53–19 loss to Johnston. Highlights included a fall from Gabe Rhiner at 113, a major decision from Enyeart at 132, and a heavyweight pin by Carter Dietrich to close the dual.
Following the tournament, Ballard's men's wrestling team sits at 3–8 overall with a 2–2 conference record. The Bombers return to action on Friday, January 2, when they travel to Knoxville for a 5:30 PM start.
