Bombers Battle to 2nd Place, Sends Multiple Qualifiers

HUXLEY, IA -- The Ballard men's wrestling team put together a strong performance at the Class 2A District 1 Tournament, securing a second-place team finish with 169 points, trailing only Mount Vernon (233.5). With multiple champions and state qualifiers, the Bombers showed grit and determination in front of their home crowd.
Leading the charge for Ballard were district champions Easton Enyeart (120), Jacob Harrison (138), Tucker Vitzthum (165), and Rhett Hedrick (190), each dominating their way to the top of the podium. Enyeart, now boasting a 32-3 record, pinned both of his opponents, including a finals victory in 3:28. Harrison (38-7) was equally dominant, winning all of his matches by fall, while Vitzthum (37-4) secured his title with a string of tech falls. Hedrick (35-4) was lightning-fast in his final match, pinning his opponent in just 35 seconds.
The Bombers also had strong runner-up finishes from Jayden Leland (150) and Jackson Wacha (215), both punching their tickets to the state tournament with gritty performances. Leland battled through a tough bracket, while Wacha rebounded from a tough loss in the finals to win his wrestle-back match in just 1:04.
Other notable performances included Carter Jeffs (144) and Owen Davidson (113), who both finished third. Jeffs scored 15.5 team points, capping his day with a fall in the third-place match, while Davidson pinned his final opponent in just 1:13.
Now, the focus shifts to Wells Fargo Arena, where the Bombers will look to leave their mark on the state's biggest stage.
The Bombers state qualifiers will compete at the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament on Wednesday, February 19, at 6:00 PM at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
