SERGEANT BLUFF – The Bombers men's wrestling team put up a valiant effort at the Class 2A regional team duals on Tuesday night, advancing to the finals after a thrilling 39-37 victory over Creston before falling to fourth-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton 58-21.

Semifinals: Ballard 39, Creston 37

In a back-and-forth battle, Ballard edged No. 24 Creston thanks to several key performances.  Rhett Hedrick wasted no time at 190 pounds, pinning Jayden Myers in just 15 seconds to set the tone.  Daniel Campbell followed with a third-period fall at 285, while Easton Enyeart dominated at 120 with a 19-3 technical fall.

Carter Jeffs and Jayden Leland also delivered tech falls at 144 and 150, respectively, while Tucker Vitzthum came up clutch with a first-period pin at 165.  Jacob Harrison added a pivotal win at 138, securing a fall in 5:10 to help push the Bombers past Creston and into the regional finals.

Finals: Sergeant Bluff-Luton 58, Ballard 21

Facing a formidable No. 4-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton squad, the Bombers fought hard but fell short against one of the state's top teams.  Hedrick continued his strong night, pinning Ayden Dather in just over a minute at 215.  Enyeart once again showed his dominance, needing only 22 seconds to record a fall at 120, while Harrison gutted out a 10-6 decision at 138.  Jace Cory also put points on the board with a fall at 157, but Sergeant Bluff-Luton's depth and firepower proved too much to overcome.

Next Up

The Bombers now turn their attention to the individual postseason, as the Bombers will host the District Meet on Saturday, February 15, beginning at 10 AM.  With a 17-5 overall record and a 5-3 mark in dual competition, Ballard will look to qualify wrestlers for the state tournament in Des Moines.
