Ersland Gains Valuable Experience at State Individual Bowling Championships
Sophomore Bowls A 544
Ballard sophomore Kendall Ersland competed Wednesday at the IGHSAU State Girls Individual Bowling Championships at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo, representing the Bombers on one of the sport's biggest stages.
Ersland posted games of 181, 202, and 161 for a three-game total of 544, finishing 22nd overall in a highly competitive 32-bowler field that featured many of the state's top upperclassmen.
After opening with a solid 181 in her first game, Ersland found her rhythm in Game 2. The sophomore rolled a 202, highlighted by consistent pocket hits and strong spare conversion, positioning herself well midway through the competition. In the final game, she battled through lane transition and changing conditions to finish with a 161 and close out her state tournament appearance.
The top eight finishers in the 32-bowler field advanced to the championship bracket for head-to-head match play. Oskaloosa senior Sidney Thompson led qualifying with a 696 series (289, 182, 225). Davenport North's Trinity Flower followed at 687, with Clinton's Kiara Krueger (678) and North Scott's Skylar Shalock (677) close behind. Also earning spots in bracket play were Emily Whitehead of Clinton (665), Jenna Fisher of Le Mars (664), Marri Feurhelm of Decorah (662), and Jaelynn Ketterer of Keokuk (658).
Competing as a 10th grader against a field dominated by juniors and seniors, Ersland gained valuable postseason experience that will serve her well moving forward. With two more years of eligibility remaining, the future remains bright for Ballard's rising standout as she continues to develop at the varsity level.
Ersland's qualification for the state tournament marks another strong step for the Ballard women's bowling program and reflects continued growth on the state stage.
