Johnson’s Double-Double Not Enough as Bombers Fall in 2OT
Carroll Defeats Ballard 62-58
The Ballard women's basketball team pushed Carroll to the limit Tuesday night at Carroll, but ultimately fell in a double-overtime thriller, 62–58.
Ballard jumped out to an early advantage, leading 15–10 after the first quarter and carrying a 24–19 edge into halftime. The Bombers continued to battle throughout a physical and evenly played contest, as Carroll edged ahead in the third quarter before the teams traded baskets down the stretch to force overtime.
Neither team was able to gain separation in the first extra period, with both sides scoring five points to send the game to a second overtime tied at 53. Carroll was able to capitalize in the final four minutes, outscoring Ballard 9–5 in the second overtime to secure the win.
Sophomore Kaylor Johnson led all scorers for Ballard with 20 points while shooting an efficient 8-of-13 from the field. Johnson also added 10 rebounds for a double-double and anchored the defense with three blocked shots. Sophomore Maci Harder contributed 13 points, four assists, and three steals, providing steady play on both ends of the floor.
Freshman Brooklyn Shoen gave the Bombers a spark off the bench, scoring eight points in limited minutes, while junior Grace Grundmeyer added six points and five rebounds. Ballard controlled the glass with a 45–37 rebounding advantage and forced 11 steals, helping keep the game competitive through regulation and overtime.
The Bombers move to 2–8 overall and 2–5 in conference action. Ballard will return home on Saturday, January 10, to host third-ranked Newell-Fonda at 1:00 PM as part of the Ballard Classic.
