Bombers Fall to Tigers in Ballard Classic
West Des Moines Valley Defeats Ballard 70-43
Huxley, IA — The Ballard Bombers women's basketball team faced a tough challenge in the Ballard Classic, falling 70-43 to the West Des Moines Valley Tigers.
Valley jumped out to a quick lead, putting up 19 points in the first quarter while holding Ballard to 12. The Bombers fought to stay in the game but trailed 35-21 at halftime. The Tigers maintained their momentum in the second half, outscoring Ballard 19-10 in the third quarter and 16-12 in the fourth to secure the win.
Senior Raegan Loewe led the Bombers with 18 points, converting 4 of her 14 field goal attempts and hitting 9 of 10 free throws. Freshman Kaylor Johnson also contributed a solid performance with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Sophomore Grace Grundmeyer was a perfect 2-for-2 from the field, adding 4 points, while freshman Olivia Wacha grabbed six rebounds to match Johnson for the team lead on the boards. Sophomore Raya Miller chipped in with 5 points, including a three-pointer.
Ballard's defense worked hard but struggled to contain Valley's balanced scoring attack.
Ballard's record falls to 2-9 (1-6). The Bombers will look to bounce back on Tuesday, January 14, when they travel to Winterset for a 6:00 PM matchup.
