Comets Dash Bombers
#2 North Polk Defeats Ballard 77-47
The Bombers women's basketball team faced a tough test on Friday night, taking on Class 4A's #2-ranked North Polk. Despite a strong effort, the Bombers fell 77-47 on the road. North Polk came out firing in the first quarter, jumping to a commanding 27-11 lead. The Bombers fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Comets 15-12, but the deficit proved too much to overcome as North Polk pulled away in the second half.
Senior Raegan Loewe led the Bombers' scoring effort with 16 points. Loewe showed her ability to get to the free-throw line, converting 7-of-10 attempts. Freshman Kaylor Johnson provided an efficient performance, scoring 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a perfect 1-for-1 from beyond the arc. Freshman Maci Harder also contributed, going 2-for-2 from the field for 4 points.
Defensively, the Bombers worked hard to limit the Comets' offensive flow, led by their seven steals, with three coming from Loewe. Freshman Olivia Wacha added two steals, while Johnson's four rebounds helped Ballard fight for possessions in the paint.
Ballard shot 45% from the field but struggled from three-point range, connecting on just 3-of-16 attempts (18.8%). At the free-throw line, the Bombers went 8-for-17 (47.1%).
The Bombers (2-4, 1-2) return home to host Raccoon River Conference rival Carlisle on Tuesday - December 17. Tipoff is set for 6:00 PM.
