Comments From Head Coach Scott Barth:
"The boys took a huge step forward from last season and I am thrilled at the way that they competed against some good competition at Webster City. We finished 3rd out of 15 complete teams and were edged out by 19th ranked Algona who took second place. We did beat the 20th ranked Waverly Shell Rock squad from class 3A and also the #6 ranked 1A squad in St. Edmond. It is always nice to get a victory over ranked squads and it shows the potential that these boys have. The boys were led by Austin Shoen who medaled in 10th place with a good beginning of the year time of 17:41. Seth Pencook also showed up and broke the 18 minute barrier placing 12th in a time of 17:56. Freshman Jayden Leland turned in a great debut time on varsity with a time of 18:33 which was good enough for 18th. Bradley Sage started his junior year with a solid effort of 18:56 to take 22nd. Freshman Max Davidson proved he wanted a varsity spot with his debut time of 19:04 to take 23rd. Sophomore Logan Huntrods and Senior Trent Payne closed out the varsity runners with times of 19:25 and 21:30. Although it wasn't a perfect race for us, this race did show our potential. Knowing that we have more in our tanks makes me optimistic about the season. We will rely on having a tight pack of runners and hope that can carry us to a breakthrough season for our boys. It has been a few seasons since we have beaten ranked teams, but we did so last night in our first meet. We also have freshman move-in Peyton Johnson and senior Ian Godbold making a push for some varsity time. It should be an exciting year for the boys."
The Bombers are back in action on Tuesday - September 6 when they compete at the Winterset Invitational Meet. The meet will feature the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity and will start at 4:15 PM.
