Comments From Head Coach Scott Barth:
"It was a beautiful night for a meet at Ogden and it was good to have full teams participating after a two meet hiatus for the junior varsity who did not run at the Heartland Classic or Griak Invitational. It was also very nice to scale down the size of the meet and be able to build some confidence with a much more manageable field.
We used the opportunity to practice our pack running with the girls as we started some of our varsity runners at tempo which allowed us to pack them up for the first mile or two with some of our junior varsity runners. The varsity then gradually progressed through the race for strong finishes. Paityn Noe won the race handily in a time of 19:30. Ava Vance and Kate Huisinga took 2nd and 3rd in the meet with times of 21:09 and 21:13. Annika Larson placed 4th in the meet with a time of 22:23. The trio of Ava Richardson, Raegan Loewe and Erica Espinoza placed 8th, 9th and 10th overall with times of 23:03, 23:04 and 23:06. We ran without two varsity runners tonight as we rested Brooke Loewe who is nursing a minor injury and Brynn Wilson who has been having some foot pain since Griak.
Kate matched a season best time as did Raegan Loewe (making her varsity debut), Gracie Ross, Audrey Zielke, Anya Jorgensen and Sunny Sigurdsdottir. So, overall it was a good showing by several of our runners. It is nice seeing our younger runners developing and showing promise for the remainder of the season and heading into next. It was a lowkey race for us and a nice breather after several hard meets in a row.
It was also nice for our guys to have this meet as it allowed us to gain some confidence under less pressure. Seth Pencook ran a season PR or 18:14 in finishing 4th for the Bombers. Trent Payne ran a career PR of 18:30 in finishing 7th. Chase Brekke ran a solid race finishing just out of the top 10 in 11th place. Bradley Sage finished 16th coming off of sickness over the weekend and Logan Huntrods finished 22nd to close out the scoring. Kale Zimmerman placed 34th in his season best time after battling shin splints for most of the season. We were without our steady varsity runner Zack Charter tonight who was home sick. We were shooting for the team title tonight but came up a little short. Ogden ran a steady race with a good pack of runners. We are still waiting for our first meet of the season where all our top varsity runners are competing, so I know we have more in the tank and hope we can get everyone healthy next week at Fort Dodge.
It will be nice to get eight solid days of practice heading into Fort Dodge a week from Thursday. It will be a good meet heading into the big three meets ending the season at conference, state qualifier and state meets. It will allow us to get in some key workouts which are needed for us at this point in the season."
The Bombers are back in action on Thursday, October 7 when they travel to the Fort Dodge Invite. The meet will start at 4:30 PM.
