Bombers Bring the Speed at Saydel
Ballard Scores 69 Team Points
The Ballard Bombers men's track and field team turned in a strong all-around performance Thursday night at the Saydel Invitational, finishing fifth overall with 69 team points in a deep and competitive field.
Under ideal conditions, Ballard showcased its versatility with standout performances across sprints, distance events, relays, and field events. The highlight of the night came in the relay events, where the Bombers captured two first-place finishes.
Ballard's distance medley relay team delivered a clutch performance, winning the event in 3:40.01, edging out Newton in a tight race. The Bombers also dominated the hurdles relay, as the 4x110 shuttle hurdle team took first place with a time of 59.82, demonstrating strong technique and coordination.
Individually, Stetson Kane led the way with a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking a winning time of 14.91. Teammate Chase Ihle added depth in the same event, placing seventh.
Ballard also saw several strong runner-up and top-three finishes. Jace Ortner narrowly missed a win in the 400 meters, placing second with an impressive 49.92. In the distance events, Graden Hermann secured a third-place finish in the 800 meters (2:04.42), while the 4x800 relay team also earned bronze with a time of 8:48.25.
The Bombers' sprint group continued to contribute, highlighted by a season-best performance in the 4x100 relay, which placed fourth in 44.01. Ballard also added a fifth-place finish in the 4x400 relay (3:38.97) and a solid showing in the sprint medley relay.
In the field events, Jonah Stagg recorded personal records in both the shot put and discus, leading a group that continues to show improvement as the season progresses. Chase Ihle added an eighth-place finish in the long jump, further contributing to the team score.
Ballard's effort reflected a balanced team performance, with athletes stepping up across multiple events. With several meets remaining before postseason competition, the focus now shifts to continued improvement in pacing, handoffs, and recovery as the team builds toward peak performance.
Ballard will return to action on Tuesday, April 21, when they host the Bomber Relays beginning at 4:30 PM.
