Men's Soccer Drops RRC Opener To Tigers
Gilbert Defeats Ballard 2-0
HUXLEY, IA – The Ballard men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday night, falling 2-0 at home to Raccoon River Conference rival Gilbert.
In a physical, high-intensity matchup, the Tigers struck early with a first-half goal to take a 1-0 lead into the break. Despite a strong defensive showing from the Bombers and several key saves by the goalkeeper, Gilbert added a second goal in the second half to secure the win.
Ballard had its share of opportunities but couldn't capitalize against a stingy Gilbert defense that limited clean looks at the net. The Bombers moved the ball well in stretches and showed composure, but the final pass or finishing touch proved elusive on the night.
The loss moves Ballard to 2-1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
