Bombers Outlast Tigers in Semifinal Classic
#1 Ballard Defeats #6 Carroll 57-55
Ballard survived a late push from Carroll to earn a hard-fought 57–55 victory in the Class 3A state semifinals, advancing to Friday's title game.
The Bombers came out with energy early, building a commanding first-half lead behind strong defense and efficient offense. Ballard jumped ahead 18–5 in the first quarter and extended the advantage to 35–19 by halftime, putting Carroll in an early hole.
Evan Abbott led the offensive charge for Ballard, finishing with 19 points while knocking down three three-pointers and adding four steals on the defensive end. Parker Miller added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Jude Gibson contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, and a team-high six assists.
Ballard maintained control through the third quarter and carried a 48–34 lead into the final period. However, Carroll mounted a furious comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bombers 21–9 to make the game tight in the closing moments.
Despite the pressure, Ballard held on defensively down the stretch to secure the two-point victory.
The Bombers were strong on the glass, grabbing 32 rebounds as a team, including 13 on the offensive end. Bryce Miller pulled down eight rebounds, and Easton Ersland added four rebounds and two blocks to help anchor the defense.
Ballard finished the game shooting 21-of-48 from the field and forced 11 Carroll turnovers while recording four blocks and 11 steals.
With the win, Ballard improves to 25–1 on the season and advances to the Class 3A state championship game.
The Bombers will face #2 ADM in the state finals on Friday, March 13 at 1:00 PM at the Casey's Center in Des Moines as Ballard looks to bring home a state title.
