Bombers Take Care of Business, Advance
#1 Ballard Defeats Webster City 79-40
The top-ranked Bombers delivered a statement performance Monday night at The Hangar, rolling past Webster City High School 79-40 in a Class 3A substate quarterfinal matchup.
With the win, Ballard High School improves to 21-1 on the season and advances to Thursday night's substate semifinal.
Ballard set the tone early, jumping out to a 17-11 lead after the first quarter. The Bombers tightened the screws defensively in the second frame, limiting Webster City's offensive rhythm while finding balance on the offensive end. A 22-point second quarter extended the lead to 39-23 at halftime.
Coming out of the break, Ballard effectively put the game out of reach. The Bombers exploded for 24 third-quarter points while holding Webster City to just nine, stretching the margin to 63-32 heading into the final period. Ballard continued to push the tempo and share the basketball in the fourth, adding 16 more points to secure the 39-point victory.
Defensively, the Bombers were disciplined in the half court, contested shots, and controlled the glass, holding Webster City to single digits in two of the four quarters. Offensively, Ballard showcased its depth and efficiency, scoring in double figures each quarter and maintaining consistent pressure for all 32 minutes.
The victory continues what has been a dominant season for Ballard, now 21-1, as postseason play intensifies.
Up next, the Bombers will host Des Moines Christian School on Thursday, February 26 at 7:00 PM at The Hangar in the substate semifinal.
