Bombers Make Statement in 73–42 Hangar Victory
Ballard Defeats #8 Nevada 73-42
The Ballard boys basketball team remained perfect on the season Saturday night, powering past Nevada 73–42 in front of a strong home crowd in the Hangar.
Ballard came out sharp from the opening tip, building a 24–12 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 37–18 by halftime. Nevada attempted to respond in the third quarter, but the Bombers answered with timely scoring and defensive stops before pulling away with a decisive 22–7 fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Senior Evan Abbott led all scorers with 24 points, shooting 9-of-16 from the field and adding eight rebounds and four steals. Mojoe Nybong followed with 16 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting night, while Jude Gibson chipped in 15 points and six steals to fuel Ballard's transition game.
Ballard's defensive pressure created consistent problems for Nevada, as the Bombers recorded 17 steals and three blocks while holding the Cubs to 42 points. Easton Ersland provided a strong presence inside with five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks, and Parker Miller added nine points and three assists.
As a team, Ballard shot 54.5 percent from the field and controlled the glass with a 27–20 rebounding edge. The Bombers also showed discipline at the free-throw line, converting 6-of-9 attempts.
With the win, Ballard improves to 12–0 overall and 9–0 in Raccoon River Conference play.
The Bombers return to action Tuesday, January 20, when they host Boone in the Hangar for a 7:30 PM RRC contest.
