Bombers Fall in Regular Season Finale to Mustangs
Dallas Center-Grimes Defeats Ballard 72-57
GRIMES – The Ballard men's basketball team wrapped up their regular season with a hard-fought 72-57 loss to Dallas Center-Grimes on Friday night. Despite a strong effort, Ballard finished the regular season with momentum heading into postseason play.
The Bombers kept pace with the Mustangs early, scoring 14 points in the first quarter and 15 in the second to stay within striking distance at halftime. Despite a strong third quarter where they outscored the Mustang's, the Bombers couldn't close the gap in the final period.
Senior Jackson Brown led the Bombers with 15 points, hitting four three-pointers to keep Ballard in contention. Jude Gibson added 18 points, going 8-of-9 from the free-throw line. Junior Easton Ersland had an efficient night, scoring eight points on a perfect 3-for-3 from the field, including two three-pointers. Mason Gatchel also contributed seven points in the effort.
Defensively, Ballard showed grit, with Miles Mudd recording three steals and Ersland and Brown adding one each. The Bombers fought to limit turnovers but were unable to overcome Dallas Center-Grime's balanced attack.
The Bombers now turns its focus to the postseason. The Bombers will play in the Class 3A District Semifinal on Monday, February 24, at 7:00 PM, when they host Atlantic. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
