Defensive Surge Leads To Offensive Output; Bombers Topple Bulldogs
Ballard Defeats Algona 49-21
The Ballard football team trailed Algona 8-0 at halftime much in large part to the defense. In the second half, the offense and defense would work in tune to throw up 49 second half points and hold the Bulldogs to 13 points in the Bomber's 49-21 win over Algona.
To start the second half, the Buldogs would kick off to the Bombers and Eli Rouse would return the ball to the endzone for the Bomber's first score of the game. The next possession, the Bombers would pin the Bulldog's backs to their end zone and force a three and out. The Bombers would block the punt and recover it in the endzone for a 15-8 Bomber's lead. From there, the Bomber's defense would pin their ears back and force four Bulldog turnovers and the offense would find the endzone multiple times using a strong ground game from Rouse and Gabriel Christensen.
The duo of Rouse and Christensen finished with 48 carries for 289 yards and four touchdowns. Both would be over 100 yards on the night. Jayden Cattell had one catch for a negative gain but had a scoop and score on a Bulldog fumble forced by Jakson Fleischmann.
Nick Wacha led the Bomber's swarming defense with nine tackles on the night. Jayden Swain finished with six.
With the win, the Bombers improve to 4-4 (2-2) on the season.
